Gran Sasso - The small Tibet

A trekking on the highest top of the Apennines

A trip so high is always exciting, especially, as in this case, when it unfolds between the shining and severe landscapes of the Italian Gran Sasso chain, in the territory of the homonymous National Park. We will walk by touching and often surpassing the 2,000 meters of altitude, in soft and lush valleys that still preserve the traces of ancient grazing, and long soaring rocky ridges, in a picturesque and almost poetic space, which has earned the nickname Little Tibet. On a clear day, when the air becomes more transparent and crystal clear, we can see the two seas at the same time, the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic seas. Our steps will design an original path, which will follow from Campo Imperatore for a sudden the low crossing the Gran Sasso, arriving later on the Teramo side, to resume Crossing high and reach the Western Peak of Corno Grande (2,912 m). After crossing the plateau of Campo Imperatore, we will visit the small and picturesque villages of Castel del Monte, Rocca Calascio and Santo Stefano di Sessanio, masterpieces of history, survived the centuries. Here, in these countries suspended and perched on the imposing backdrop of the Gran Sasso, we will enter into an "onther" time, experimenting with the intimate charm.
We will sleep in huts, small hotels and hostels, in a touring trek that we will discover together the charm of the high mountains and the welcome of the people of Abruzzo. CESIDIO PANDOLFI LEADING
