It’s a retreat / camp situated at 1835 mt. share and also called "Three Borders" because it was built on the watershed of the Three Valleys, Val Carbonara, the pass Aceretta and Vallone Pesco di Jorio, Rifugio di Jorio is a vantage point like few others in the Park.
The "glance" covers most of the territory of the National Park of Abruzzo: the Monte Serrone, Prati d’ Angro to the former Lake Fucino, Schienacavallo of the mountain, the Serra del Carapale and the chain of Mount Marsicano to continue throughout the massive Camosciara, the Petroso and Serra of Gravare connected with the Serra del Re, Mount Tranquillo and ridges of the Rock .
For its particular position overlooking the Macchia della Rocca one of the most beautiful beech forests of the Park and habitat of wild animals such as Brown Bear, Deer, Roe Deer, the Apennine wolf, the Dalmatian Woodpecker, the Refuge is a place of Jorio ideal for the observation and study of animals and their lives and starting point for many hikes in the mountains. Because of its location away from visual pollution is suitable for astronomical observation, or more simply, to be a bit relax and sunbathe.
The refuge is accessible only on foot and has 10 beds in single dormitory. It’s equipped with a wood stove for heat and cooking gas. It is equipped with a toilet , nor drinking water or hot water. It’s equipped instead of a well to collect rainwater. It is not supplied with electricity.
We can also arrange trips out of the program, at least for groups of 6-7 people.
