New year day with the wolves
A New Year different from others. Every day we will walk along the trails of the park in search of animals, following the tracks and signs of presence that they leave on the mantle of snow, also helping with snowshoes.
A New Year's Eve different from the others, in the name of nature immersed in the mountains and snowy woods of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park.
A stay dedicated to the Apennine wolf (Canis lupus italicus) lord of winter, who has found the ideal habitat for living and hunting in the valleys of the Park, taking refuge in these woods even in the most difficult moments for its survival.
Every day we will walk along the paths of the Park in search of animals, following the traces and signs of presence that they leave on the snowy mantle, also helping us with snowshoes.
We will sleep in a family-run hotel, where we will be able to appreciate hospitality and good Abruzzo cuisine.
Program
First day 29 December
arrival in PESCASSEROLI at 18.00 meeting with the guide at the Ecotur office. Reception, hotel accommodation. 20.00 dinner and presentation of the program.
Second day December 30th
08.00 am breakfast; 9.00 am excursion with snowshoes to the secular Bosco della Difesa di Pescasseroli and ideal habitat of the Apennine wolf, recognition of tracks on snow. Packed lunch and in the afternoon visit to the wildlife area of the Apennine Wolf and to the village of Civitella Alfedena with its nativity scenes. Return expected in the late afternoon. ; 20.00 dinner and overnight stay.
Third day 31 December
08.00 am breakfast, 9.00 am departure for an excursion with snowshoes in the locality of Cicerana, where the beech woods are UNESCO heritage. Lunch break, polenta in the refuge. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. 9.00 pm New Year's Eve dinner.
Fourth day 1 January
08.00 am breakfast; 9.00 am excursion with snowshoes in one of the most characteristic valleys of the park, to discover the paths of the wolves. Packed lunch by the participants; 20.00 dinner and overnight stay
Fifth day 2 January
9.00 am breakfast excursion to Val Fondillo with wildlife observation by means of telescopes - Tornareccia Springs. Packed lunch and departure for the places of origin expected in the early afternoon.
The program may be changed because of adverse weather conditions or due to particular needs of the participants.
Accomodation
In double triple and quadruple rooms in a family run B&B
Equipment
Hiking boots, jacket (possibly in gore-tex) with waterproof and windproof cap, backpack, water bottle, torch, leggings, hat and gloves of wool or fleece, sunglasses, long pants and sun protection cream , camera, binoculars.
